Albino Pygmy Cory – care and compatible tank mates

Gastrodermus pygmaeus (Corydoras pygmaeus). Pygmy Corys are tiny social fish around 3 cm standard length. They hover in mid-water and rest on leaves as well as forage on the bottom. Albino Pygmy is the same listed species with its own label; it is not an Albino Bronze Cory.

Water and aquarium planning

Species guidance is 22–26°C, pH 6.4–7.4 and preferably below 8 dGH. Our main mixed plan uses 24–25°C, pH 6.5 and 3–5 dGH. The Salt and Pepper Cory option has its own 26°C plan; southern Hastatus has a seasonal 22–25°C plan. Do not combine those different plans into one tank.

Keep at least 10, preferably more, of this exact dwarf Cory species. Our mixed plan starts around 90 × 40 cm with a modest small-fish shoal; use 120 × 45 cm for larger groups, multiple bottom groups or conditional companions. Provide fine clean sand, planted resting leaves, sheltered low-flow areas and unobstructed surface access. A different Cory species does not replace its own group.

Group, feeding and precautions

Offer micro-sized sinking foods plus small aquatic live/frozen foods, including suspended foods for mid-water Gastrodermus. Verify individual feeding; these fish are not cleaners. Protect eggs and fry separately. Small sale fish need quiet quarantine and grow-out, not immediate placement with adult community fish. Avoid Angels, Oscars, larger gouramis, predatory catfish and any fish capable of swallowing a Cory; defensive spines can harm both animals. Stop a combination for stalking, persistent chasing or feeding exclusion.
