The Petricola Catfish, originating from Lake Tanganyika in Eastern Africa, is an intriguing addition to any aquarium. With its peaceful nature and inquisitive behavior, this catfish thrives in a stimulating environment, particularly in a Lake Tanganyika biotope setup with ample open water and rock formations for exploration.

The Petricola Catfish sports a light brown color adorned with irregular dark brown spots, and its fins boast distinctive white tips with a darker base. With its trilateral and elongated humeral process, this species is visually captivating and adds an interesting dynamic to any tank.

These friendly and inquisitive fish thrive in groups of 3 – 4 or more, displaying cautious behavior when kept singularly. They make excellent tank mates for appropriately sized rainbowfish, livebearers, and various cichlid communities, particularly mouthbrooding Rift Lake species. However, caution is advised when housing them with smaller fish, as they may be mistaken for food.
